Why this ETF*A basket of stocks you can buy like one. won

Each month we score three ETFs on their recent moves - the last 1, 3 and 6 months - and the highest score gets your money. If both stock ETFs are losing, the rules shelter in long-term bonds instead. New here? An ETF is just a basket of stocks you can buy like a single stock.

Questions people ask

The short version, in plain English.

A single monthly signal: the ETF*A basket of stocks you can buy like one. our rule currently favors, built from public price data. It's free to follow, there are no sponsors or paid placements, and the whole method is explained on this page.

Every month we compare US stocks (SPY) against international small-cap stocks (SCZ), each scored by adding up its own 1-month, 3-month and 6-month return. Whichever scores higher gets 100% of the allocation. It's a version of a strategy sometimes called Accelerating Dual Momentum.

If SPY and SCZ are both scoring negative at the same time, the rule moves entirely into TLT (long-term US Treasuries) instead of holding a losing stock ETF*A basket of stocks you can buy like one.. It stays there until one of the two turns positive again - the system's way of stepping to the sideline during rough stretches.

Public market prices for SPY, SCZ and TLT. The rule only needs month-end prices, so figures are refreshed around the start of each month rather than in real time - the exact "data as of" date is shown above the pick. The engine on this page recomputes the score itself from that data; nothing is manually typed in.
